Close up view of going through a number of SIV tasks whilst on an SIV course in Oludeniz Turkey with Passion Paragliding - first time doing an SIV - can highly recommend it!!
3 Tasks are missing from the video compilation for following reasons;
- Accelerated collapses - as the camera was on my knee (no helmet cams allowed!!) the process of using the bar made the footage look like I was having a fit so binned it
- Flat and Dynamic spin - camera malfunction - micro SD card - grrrr
- Full stall - no excuses - was just too chicken - maybe next time :-)
Our team traveled to Nepal last December, to enhance the flying skills, our pilot Li Ming Song took a SIV course and validate his advanced pilot by APPI.
We arrived at Pokhara on 20 December, and explored the beautiful flying site in Sarangkok (1500m) and landing in Phewa Lake of Pokhara (800m).
The SIV course started on Jan 4, the 3-day course aims at enhance pilot's control, safety and performance, and how to master pilot's glider in all configurations. The exercises include roll, pitch, pendular turns, collapse, fast descent techniques, spiral, full stall, spin, acro basics, reserve development, etc.
The course is offered by APPI, it is a pioneering International Paragliding organization.
It provides professional international standard of paragliding education system, and above all, advocating fly safely.
We learnt lots from course and throughout the trip, the people we met, the cultures and food were also very impressing.
Surely, we will be back to Nepal and Pokhara once again very soon!

This is a compilation of the video I managed to recover from my SIV course this weekend with the TPG crew. The reserve through attempt was on my last run Saturday.

So after reviewing this some more its very apparent that i am letting my head get in front of the risers. This might be partly due to how i have my harness reclined too, but mosty, I believe that i start flying very tense and that posture is the result of it.

My worst full stall. A possible way of learning to deal with unstable situations would be to attend an SIV course ran by experienced SIV instructors. SIV stands for 'Simulation d'Incident en Vol' and roughly translated means simulating unstable situations in flight.

Nach der "Pflicht" (siehe Teil 1) folgt hier die "Kür": Flugfiguren, welche über das übliche Sicherheitstraining hinausgehen: Sat heli dynamischer Fullstall,
für jeden soviel Acro, wie er wünscht und verträgt.
Mit dabei auch der 2005 relativ junge "Dani-Spin".
Den Abschluss bilden Notschirmöffnungen, die ersten 2 waren ungeplant.
Neben einer Menge Spaß vermittelt Dani Loritz professionell sein Wissen über Flugsituationen und -verhalten -
jeder nicht nur Abgleiter absolvierende Gleitschirmpilot wird gelegentlich dankbar darauf zurückgreifen.
Ok, so we did it. The boat is ready, equipped with Parawinch G8. Towing spots is tested, we can cover all wind directions now. 7 pilots at this course. 70 takeoffs in 4 days. Could be done in less than 3, but rainy and windy conditions on Saturday slowed us down. The best result - 35 takeoffs a day. 15 min each cycle working as a rescue team on the winching boat as-well. The glider is very stable and flys smoothly even with a 50% collapse. It didn't tend to go into rotation under these conditions. A little weight shift and minimal use of opposite brake was enough to maintain easy control.
