English lesson on the subject of heatwaves. What is a heatwave? We are having one here in the UK right now.

Right now, here in the UK we are having a hot and sticky time and it has nothing to do with the Brexit. As we hit mid-July, the temperatures are set to soar as lots of lovely warm air makes its way from southern Europe to our shores. Of course not everyone likes the heat. Some will of course complain about the heat. They will say that it is too hot. Some will complain about the muggy weather. A muggy climate is hot and sticky. The humidity and heat combine to form what is for some an overwhelming and unbearable atmosphere. A sudden burst of hot weather can be described as a heatwave. British summers tend to vary from year to year, with the occasional heatwave occurring from time to time. In recent years we've had heatwaves as early as spring. A heatwave can go on for a couple of days, or a couple of months, like the famous heatwave of 1976, when weeks of scorching hot weather lead to a water shortage here in the UK. Fortunately for us, the heatwave we are having now will not hang around for long. Do you like hot weather? What is the climate like in your country? Some people are never happy with the weather. If it's sunny, then it is too sunny. If it's cool, then it is too cool. Maybe that is part of the reason why the British are so obsessed with the weather...because it's never quite right. We can be a fussy lot sometimes. As for me...well I love this heat. I have no problem with this heatwave, in fact I love a sunny climate. The hottest day on record here in the UK (in July) was 36.7 Celsius, which is 98 Fahrenheit. That's pretty hot. Extreme heat can be described as scorching, blistering, sweltering, baking, blazing, boiling. I wonder what will the rest of this summer be like? More heatwaves perhaps? I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.
