The word perplex is a verb, which means to cause someone to feel completely baffled or confused. ''Are you trying to perplex me with your nonsense?'' To say or do something that makes no sense might leave a person feeling perplexed. ''His behaviour left me perplexed.'' One person can perplex another with a confusing statement or a hard to answer question. ''His statement was full of perplexing thoughts.'' A person's odd or peculiar behaviour can be perplexing. 'Perplex' is the verb. 'Perplexed' and 'Perplexing' are the adjectives. The person causing the confusion is the 'perplexer'. This is the noun for of Perplex. There is also the noun, 'perplexity', which is the inability to deal with something complicated. As a countable noun 'perplexities' names a confusing or baffling situation. 'The perplexities of a long distance relationship.' The origin of 'perplex' comes from the Latin word for 'entangled'. PERPLEX perplex.
