What is plagiarism? What does it mean to plagiarise? Is plagiarism stealing? The word plagiarise is explained in this short English lesson. Speak English with Misterduncan.

MY PLAGIARISED SPEECH...
Friends Romans countrymen, lend me your ears
You've never had it so good
So don't ask what your country can do for you
Not because it's easy, but because it is hard
I have a dream
that no such undertaking has been received
She was the people's princess
There is nothing to fear, but fear itself
To be or not to be? That is the question
Only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural!
She loves you...yeah - yeah - yeah.

Recently there has been a storm of controversy over the speech given by Melania Trump, where she appears to be using extracts from a speech made by Michelle Obama in 2008.

The accusation is that Melania's speechwriters lifted parts of Michelle Obama's speech and tried to pass it off as their own. This particular action is called 'plagiarism'.

The thing in question has been plagiarised. It has been lifted - stolen - copied. Anything created can be plagiarised.

A work of art, or a piece of music. Something written down, such as a song, poem or speech. An idea or invention.
