Unfortunately people fall sick and you don't want to use cliche's or upset the ill person. So right choice of phrases can really brighten a person's day. So if your friend or any family member is sick, below are the phrases that you can use:

1) I'm here for you
One should begin by saying I'm sorry to hear that and then use this phrase. This phrase is perfect to comfort the sick person and give the confidence that you are there for him/her.

2) Just give me my marching orders
This will cheer up the sick and its a great phrase to express empathy and availability.

3) Is there anything I can do to comfort you?
The first thing you do is empathize, you understand what the person is feeling or going through therefore you want to help that person in the best way. To do so you can ask this question or also say I can only imagine what you are going through.

4) Wish you a quick recovery.
Now you want them to get better and recuperate as soon as possible. Therefore to wish them a quick recovery use this phrase.

5) Hope you perk up soon
This phrase is again similar to the one above. When you want someone to feel better soon you can use the phrase and motivate them to be positive for their recovery.

Hope these phrase are useful to all you out there, Use it when required and make sure you don't just remain silent or say silly things that would worsen the situation.

Mistakes in English speaking with – One of, Few of, Some of, None of & All of – Improve your spoken English

http://www.learnex.in/mistakes....-in-english-speaking

This is an English speaking lesson which is going to deal with the use of very common words like one of, a few of, some of, most of, none of and all of. This is a mistake that most people make while speaking English and is incorrectly used in spoken English by most of the English speakers. While learning English students find these phrases confusing and often make mistakes in English speaking while using them

Let’s look at the first phrase “one of” in a sentence.

Example: One of my books is missing.

Now a lot of people do not add the “s” or the plural form of books. They don’t do so because they think that you can’t have “is” followed by the plural form of a noun. But actually you have to add an “s” to the noun when you are using “one of” and follow that noun by “is”. This is because the word “one” is the subject in this sentence. So, you have to use “is” after the noun.

Example: A few of my books are missing. A few refers to 2 or more books. So you will use are and of course the plural form of the noun

This is the same rule you apply when using some of, most of, none of and all of.

Now this rule for these phrases only applies when we have countable nouns or nouns that you can quantify into individual units.

Uncountable nouns: advice, news, things like butter, milk, water, rice.we can’t count these things. These nouns are always singular in their use of spoken English.

Eg: Some of his advice is good. This same rule applies for most of, all of and none of. Which means you can replace some of with most of, all of and none of

However, you can’t use one of and few of when using an uncountable noun.

So, you can’t say -one of his advice is good or a few of his advice is good. Both are incorrect.

#1. Which decision is planned - Will/Going to?

Let’s look at a conversation:

(Phone rings)

Michelle – Hi Harry.

Harry – Hi Michelle, would you like to join me for a coffee this evening?

Michelle – Yea, I will join you but I must let my mom know.

*In this conversation, “will” is used to talk about a rapid decision i.e. a decision made at the moment of speaking.

Conversation continues..................... (Phone rings)

Mom – Hey Michelle.

Michelle – Hi mom. I need to tell u something.

Mom – tell me

Michelle – I am going to have a coffee with Harry this evening.

*In this part of the conversation, “Going to” is used to talk about a decision that was made before the moment of speaking and arrangements have been made for that decision.

#2 –Which decision is more certain – will/ going to?

We are more certain about the decision where we use “Going to” – Because the decision was pre-planned and arrangements have been more for it already. (to meet Harry, had a conversation, agreed on the phone, told mom)– 100% sure

When we are lesser certain about a decision we use “will”– Because the decision is made rapidly in an instant and no arrangements have been made for it. ( not yet told mom, only confirmed to Harry) – 85-90 % sure

If you are even lesser sure about your future plans then you can use will with expressions such as: Probably, possibly, I hope, I think- 70 % sure

For Example:

If you speak to a person for the first time and you realize that you have a lot in common. You can say, “I think we’ll get along well”. (50-70 % sure)

I’ll possibly spend these vacations in Hawaii.
Probably I’ll see you next summer.
